Eek! You want me to read what?! {A Top Ten Tuesday Post}

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they provide a Top Ten topic for you to create your list, then you share it on their post so others can find you. :)

♥ Top Ten Most Intimidating Books

What makes a book intimidating? It could be size... I mean, have you seen some of the monstrosities out there? It could be the raving lunatics. We've all been there. *We* loved a book so we go on and on about how great it is. That filters out to the rest of the world, and, oops ~ we've scared people off. What if I don't love it like all of these people? Is something wrong with me? ;) Of course not, but that doesn't mean I won't shy away from it if everyone seems to be all about it. Or, what if it's a series and I'm afraid of how it will continue/end? Or a book by an author I love and I'm afraid I won't love it as much?  And classics? Don't even get me started on those. C'mon... great literary works are supposed to be adored by all, right? So, what books am I intimidated by?

Shiver - I have loved/enjoyed every Maggie Stiefvater book I have read. What if I don't this one?
Jane Eyre - I'm supposed to be reading this for a discussion with two friends, and I'm shying away from it. It's a classic, that's what I do.
Rose Under Fire - I LOVED LOVED LOVED Code Name Verity. What if this doesn't live up?
17 & Gone - An author I really like raved about this one. I bought it. Now it sits. ;)
Gone Girl - Came highly recommended by a friend; what if I don't like it?
To Kill A Mockingbird - Need I say more?
Jane Austen (in general) - I've never *gasp* read a Jane Austen novel. Classics just scare me, I think.

What books are you intimidated by?

Smiles,
B

  1. I have to agree, the thought that something might not live up to expectations (either because of the buzz around it or because I've really been looking forward to it) can definitely be intimidating! I've not yet read any of Stiefvater's work but SHIVER is on my TBR just waiting for time to read the trilogy.

    1. I did the waiting game with Requiem (Lauren Oliver). I was dying for it, then I got it and I was scared to death to crack open that baby... lol. I hope you like Shiver when you get to it.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Gone Girl and Jane Eyre are both really good books, but if they don't live up to your expectations? That really doesn't matter :). It makes for a much more interesting debate!

    1. Haha... very fair point. It'd be a boring world if we all agreed. :)

  3. Gone Girl is a book you will love or hate I guess. I know people from both sides.
Classics have been out there a lot today. I guess they have an intimidation factor on them.

    1. That's what I've gathered... there's not much middle ground with Gone Girl.

  4. I totally agree that all classics intimidate me. If I know it's a classic I immediately don't want to read it. I'm attempting to read Pride & Prejudice right now...it's exactly like I expected it to be and not in a good way!
I'm a big fan of Maggie Stiefvater's writing, the Shiver series was my least favorite of her books.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT post :)

    1. That bites that it's in the negative! :(

I just finished Lament and liked it. It didn't blow me away, but I did enjoy it. I'm still nervous for Shiver for some reason. Maybe because it was so popular there for a while? I don't know.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  5. To Kill a Mockingbird, Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice all make my top 5 books of all time! Haha, different tastes for different folks :^) I can totally understand that the writing style isn't always friendly. Sometimes too wordy, sometimes slow moving, but I wholeheartedly recommend you give them a go. After a little bit I usually get into the rhythm and can focus on the story. Happy reading! 1. Thanks for the encouragement! I do *want* to read them, I just tend to freak out over the idea of actually doing so. ;)

    1. They are, aren't they? I think it's just that *someone* put them on a pedestal and made them all special like. lol

  7. Shiver is my favorite Stiefvater book. I can even quote it, lol. I think you should give it a shot, it's quite small. My TTT

  8. I've been waffling on Shiver for a long time but I forgot about it for this list. I tried Gone Girl but I couldn't get over the writing style.
