Happy Follow Friday!

This week's question:

What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
~ GoodReads ~
I picked this one not only because of recommendations, but it's John Green and David Levithan. I figured, given that I've loved them both in the past, how could it go wrong... but go wrong it did. It's not that it was horrible... it's not that I didn't like it. But I didn't love it. Which left me very disappointed. I guess between the authors being ones I've loved in the past and the high recommendations, I really expected to love it so maybe I set the bar too high. I don't know. Whatever it was, I didn't love it, and for that I am sad. I wanted to. Oh how I wanted to.

What about you?

Smiles,
B

  1. I am dying to read Will Grayson, Will Grayson! It's been on my TBR for so long and yes, like you, I feel like John Green and David Levithan TOGETHER and nothing can go wrong! It's too bad you didn't like it. I will read it anyways, but I love it when everyone loves something, but someone else doesn't. Great answer, Brandy!

    1. Lots of people have enjoyed it. I just didn't love it, unfortunately. :( I know it's bound to happen, but it shocked me, being that it was JG & DL. lol

  2. I hate when that happens! When you're anticipating a book and all it does is disappoint you. I've wanted to read Will Grayson, Will Grayson for the longest time, though. One day, I will give it a chance. ;)

    1. I didn't hate it, but I so was expecting to love it. :( Hopefully you don't come away disappointed when you get to it.

  3. I did love that one! I do know a few people struggled with it though. I found the ending delightfully cheesy. :D

    1. I found the ending to be a little *too* cheesy for me. I think that's what sealed the deal on not loving it, actually. :( I still am sad I didn't enjoy it more. lol

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Hopping through. I liked WG, WG, but I did find it depressing. I always felt bad for David's Will.

  5. Mine is definity Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. It was my first of hers, and I *hated* it ... Which makes me feel like an awful person both because others loved it and because I love her books since (Scorpio Races is a fav and Raven Boys is awesome!). I don't know what went wrong for me! I want to reread but am afraid it will happen again ...

    1. I think it's your hate of it that has deterred me from picking it up. Dang you! lol I will read it; I own it and I've not been disappointed yet by hers. Although I did read somewhere, Goodreads, maybe, that someone liked Wolves of Mercy Falls but didn't much care for TSR or TRB. So we'll see when I get to it. :)

I've not actually read this book, or these authors. Which books of theirs do you love?

    1. John Green - The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns.

David Levithan - Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (co-written with Rachel Cohn) & Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (also co-written with Rachel Cohn).

I highly recommend TFiOS & Dash & Lily to nearly anyone. :)

  10. I haven't read Will Grayson, Will Grayson yet, but I already have it on my kindle. I understand you, though, and I try to be very careful with my expectations these days. Sometimes, I think I'm so ready to love a book because of the author, and because of some reviews, and then, when it's not what I thought it would be - I'm disappointed.

I'm an old follower, here's my FF post for this week.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. It's so hard to not get your expectations up. For example, I have Requiem by Lauren Oliver just sitting there; I'm so scared to start it and have the ending be anti-climactic. I've not read any reviews thus far, so it's all in my mind, but still. lol
