To Redesign or Not Redesign ♥ Top Ten Tuesday

  ♥ Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign I Hope are Never Redesigned ♥

I'm not a designer. I'm a reader. A librarian. A wife. A mom, first and foremost. Although there are a lot of covers out there I don't like for various reasons (I really dislike covers that use models... eyes, partial faces don't bother me if done "right" (I use quotations because, really, right is different for everyone...), but shoulders up, full bodies... I really feel those are going to be outdated so quickly... it bothers me... and I hate that it "tells" me what the characters should look like), there are many covers that are done, imo, right. They have the capability of being timeless, of never *needing* changed to keep with the times. They are beautiful, eye catching, or meaningful. That being said, here are some... :)

The Raven Boys ~ Maggie Stiefvater

 

Okay. Now I know a lot of people like the newer cover, with 'the boys' on the cover. I, personally, love this one. It's timeless... it's simple... it's perfect.

 

Days of Blood & Starlight ~ Laini Taylor

 

I love-love-love these covers. Beautiful. I know I said I don't really like the 'people' covers, but this one (well, the series, really) is exquisite.

Shatter Me ~ Tahereh Mafi

 

I absolutely love this cover. The actual cover on the hardcover is... bleh. No, thank you. This one, however... it's awesome.

 

Code Name Verity ~ Elizabeth Wein

 

This one is perfect in its simplicity, its meaningfulness. Beautifully done. Much better than the other covers it has.

Revolution ~ Jennifer Donnelly

 

Despite this not being the cover of the one I own, I love, love, love this one.

The Hunger Games ~ Suzanne Collins

 

As you can imagine, I really dislike remaking the covers to go along with the movie. I get the reasoning, I just don't like them. I do, however, love the original covers of the Hunger Games series. They're simple, telling. Black the beginning - it's bleak, it's dark. Red for the beginning of the fight - the fire has been started, the war has begun. Blue for the ending - the light will come back. ♥

These covers are gorgeous... and amazingly done.

 

The Scorpio Races ~ Maggie Stiefvater

 

Simple, beautiful. I love the silhouette of the horse with the rider.

The Fault in Our Stars ~ John Green

 

I love, again, the simplicity of this one. And it helps that it's an amazing story and doesn't need a cover to sell it. But they didn't know that at the time. :)

 

The Replacement ~ Brenna Yovanoff

 

Seriously? Look at it. How is that not an amazingly intriguing cover? That's right. You can't come up with a reason, can you? (Please don't tell me if you can... I don't want to hear it... lol).

So there you have it. My ten covers I absolutely think should never be (or, in some cases, should've never BEEN) redone.

Simplistic, beautiful... I love the covers to this entire series. They really speak to the darkness within the books as well.

Seriously? You have to ask? ;)  It's creeptastic. Can you get anymore creepy than sharp, rusty looking instruments hanging over a baby pram? It just gave me (and still does, sometimes) chills.

I had fun going back and looking on Goodreads to browse covers of books I've read. I also tried to think about books I read prior to using Goodreads. That being said, since not all books seem to hit me, this probably isn't a comprehensive list. ;)  Nonetheless... in no particular order...

Splintered by AG Howard

I love the colors and how it all just 'pops' out at me. It's simply breathtaking, really. 

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

Creeptastic! This was the first book I ever bought based solely on the cover - I had *no* clue what the book was about, I just knew I had to own it.

The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff

This was a gift from Malissa, but I probably would have done the same as with the previous Yovanoff book - had to own it. :)

 

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I love the simplicity. The mockingjay is a character all on its own and it's just perfect. No other cover could do this series justice in my eyes.  

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

I love the masquerade look and once you read it you see a glimpse into part of the story. I love it.

 

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

I love this. I mean, really, who doesn't want to be laying with a ghost over you in the mist?

 

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Simply gorgeous. All four of these are wonderful and I'm sad to see them redone. As they usually are when movies are made. :(

 

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

*This* cover. This is the one I have on my shelf and I still love it. I really wish they had kept with this theme when making the rest of them.

 

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Another simple one, yet so meaningful again. I liked it before I read it but loved it after I read it.

 

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

This cover is so haunting to me. Her eyes are so sad, and she has no mouth exposed. Perfect cover for a perfect book.
