Wishing & Waiting

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that highlights upcoming releases we're excited about.

There are, as you know, books coming out left and right that we all want to read. One I am looking most forward to is...

Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3)

I *just* finished Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) last nite, so I'm itching for this one already! Hopefully I'll be just as excited come next year when it finally graces us with its presence (according to Goodreads it's due out in April 2014).

Wishlist Wednesday is a meme hosted by Pen to Paper where you post a book that has been on your wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that you can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto your wonderful shelves.

What do I want to add to my shelf? So many choices. This time, I'll go with...

The Storyteller

I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult, and I don't own this one... yet.  I haven't read it either, but that doesn't matter - it will be on my shelf someday. :)

 The Fault in Our Stars
I *loved* this book and yet I don't own it. I want to own it, which makes me sad. I want to live in it again, and again, and again. :)

~ Goodreads Description ~

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

~ The Scoop from Goodreads ~

Seventeen-year-old Lauren is having visions of girls who have gone missing. And all these girls have just one thing in common—they are 17 and gone without a trace. As Lauren struggles to shake these waking nightmares, impossible questions demand urgent answers: Why are the girls speaking to Lauren? How can she help them? And… is she next? As Lauren searches for clues, everything begins to unravel, and when a brush with death lands her in the hospital, a shocking truth emerges, changing everything.

With complexity and richness, Nova Ren Suma serves up a beautiful, visual, fresh interpretation of what it means to be lost.
So this one caught my eye once and I'll be honest, I forgot about it. Then an author, Stephanie Kuehnert, talked about how much she loved it on Twitter. I loved Stephanie's book, Ballads of Suburbia, and I've seen in the past where we have similar tastes in books, so I moved this up on my TBR list. She insisted I move up to the 'read immediately' list, but budget constraints won't allow for that. =D  Such is life.

What about you? What book(s) do you want to find homes on your shelf?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2

I recently finished Daughter of Smoke & Bone and really want to continue on Karou's journey.

By Maggie Stiefvater

I *love* Maggie Stiefvater and can't wait to read the next installment. I hate when I get into a series before they are all written and having to wait. But I am not one for delayed gratification. ;)

Wishes and Wants

Wishlist Wednesday is a meme hosted by Pen to Paper where you post a book that has been on your wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that you can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto your wonderful shelves.

Ahhh... So many pretties I would love to have a home on my shelf. But maybe I should wish for more shelf space first? ;)  Nah. That's no fun. I wouldn't want to waste a wish on that when I can, in theory, make that happen myself.

What book shall I choose this week?

Liesl and PoLiesl & Po by Lauren Oliver

I love Lauren Oliver's writing, which makes me want to read all the books she writes. This is definitely one I want for my own shelf eventually.  :)

♥ A Reason for the Season ♥

So my son, Eli, who is three, asks every day we get in the car to listen to the "shopping" song. [see above] If you watch it, you'll see it's not exactly a shopping song and last year he called it the "Christmas" song. But I love it, he loves it, and Zoe, who is almost a year, can be heard making noises right along with it. We go through more of the Straight No Chaser Christmas CD as we drive into town ~ he also loves the "five golden rings" song, the "Grinch" song, and the "Rudolph" song. Then I get to choose. lol  Eli's excitement is contagious ~ he's even got my husband excited to listen to Christmas music! (shocking!)

I am looking very forward to next week when we get to open presents with the kids. Eli is super excited about what might be under the tree (my secret hope: he loves his book the most... anyone think I'll get my wish?).

Anyway... back to books now:

This week's choice...

Lone Wolf
Aside from Between the Lines, this is the only other Jodi Picoult book from the last 7 years that I don't own. There's only a few from before that I don't own. I haven't read the last three books, including this one, but I certainly plan to. I think I just needed a break from the heaviness for a bit. :)

This week's choice...

I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone
I loved Ballads of Suburbia, her second novel. Despite the fact that Malissa (my best friend and the one who recommends tons of books to me and is usually spot on) didn't enjoy this one as much as Ballads, I still want it. ☺

~Goodreads Summary~
A raw, edgy, emotional novel about growing up punk and living to tell.

The Clash. Social Distortion. Dead Kennedys. Patti Smith. The Ramones. Punk rock is in Emily Black's blood. Her mother, Louisa, hit the road to follow the incendiary music scene when Emily was four months old and never came back. Now Emily's all grown up with a punk band of her own, determined to find the tune that will bring her mother home. Because if Louisa really is following the music, shouldn't it lead her right back to Emily?

Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)
Just One Day by Gayle Forman
Expected Publication: January 8, 2013

~Goodreads Summary~
A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay
When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop hosted by Pen to Paper where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

This week's choice...

Between the Lines

What happens when happily ever after... isn’t?

Delilah is a bit of a loner who prefers spending her time in the school library with her head in a book—one book in particular. Between the Lines may be a fairy tale, but it feels real. Prince Oliver is brave, adventurous, and loving. He really speaks to Delilah.

And then one day Oliver actually speaks to her. Turns out, Oliver is more than a one-dimensional storybook prince. He’s a restless teen who feels trapped by his literary existence and hates that his entire life is predetermined. He’s sure there’s more for him out there in the real world, and Delilah might just be his key to freedom.

Delilah and Oliver work together to attempt to get Oliver out of his book, a challenging task that forces them to examine their perceptions of fate, the world, and their places in it. And as their attraction to each other grows along the way, a romance blossoms that is anything but a fairy tale.

I have been a Jodi Picoult fan for many years and own probably 2/3 of her books. I haven't gotten this one yet, nor read it. I think I needed a break from her for a bit (some of her topics... okay, most of them... are a bit on the heavy side as of late) but I love the idea that she wrote a book with her daughter and really want to read this one. :)

What about you all? What's on your wishlist?

B
