Top Ten Tuesday: Books with Tough Subjects

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they provide a Top Ten topic for you to create your list, then you share it on their post so others can find you. :)

♥ Top Ten Books Dealing with Tough Subjects

When I saw this topic, I immediately thought of number 1 on my list. But aside from that one, I had to think to recall books I've read that were "tough" subjects. Once I started thinking, though... the list grew. lol  Here we go...

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
(or any by her, really...)
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead by Julie Anne Peters
Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews
The Deep End of the Ocean by Jaquelyn Mitchard
Cut by Patricia McCormick
A Corner of the Universe by Ann M Martin

What books have you read with tough subjects?

Smiles,

  1. I haven't read a single book on your list, though some of them are on my TBR. While making my own list, I realized I prefer more fluffy stuff for my reading, as I had trouble making it today.

    Here's my TTT post.

    1. That's part of what makes all of this so much fun - the diversity! :)

  2. I've read Speak and Thirteen Reasons Why, and I've watched Bridge to Terabithia (*sob*). I also realized when writing this list that I don't really like tough books generally. I'm much more drawn to action and light reading.

    1. I have to sort of either fall into them or really be in the mood. I think Bridge To Terabithia really got me because I was *not* expecting it at all.

  3. I was in doubt about Flowers in the Attic for my list. It is very disturbing indeed but it did not give me the shivers now when I was considering it. Great list :)

    1. Oh most definitely! I can't imagine the blackened heart she must have to do that to her children.

    1. I was so shocked the first time I read it. Crazy unexpected for me.

  7. Flowers in the Attic - that book killed me. For so many reasons. I think partly because I was scandalized (I was 11 when I read it so that probably explains that) but also shocked at the mother... I couldn't believe anyone would do that to anyone... let alone to people they love.

And I didn't know Ann M Martin wrote anything apart from the Babysitter's Club (which I love) so I shall check that one out. Great list!

    1. I read it in early high school, so I imagine my fragile psyche was affected as well. :)

Ann M Martin has a few books outside of the BC. You should definitely look into them.

      Thanks for coming by.
